Version 2.8 of the Reference Gerber Viewer is now available.

"For version 2.8 of the Reference Gerber Viewer our focus was ease of use and especially ease of learning.  Plenty of users of the viewer need it only from time to time, and for them it is of paramount importance that it is very intuitive," said Peter Vermeulen, lead developer of the Reference Gerber Viewer.

"The Reference Gerber Viewer now displays all the meta-information contained in Gerber X2 files: the layer structure, where the via pads are, the CAD netlist, component reference descriptor and pin number of all the pads. If you want to find out what extra information is contained in an X2 file, check the X2 files in the Reference Gerber Viewer. We feel it is the best online X2 viewer," added Karel Tavernier, managing director of Ucamco.

The Reference Gerber Viewer is a cloud-based online web service. There is no software to download, install and maintain, and it is always up to date. It is kept simple and easy to learn. It offers the following benefits:

  • For developers, it provides a reliable verification of Gerber output software.
  • For creators of Gerber files, it provides a reliable check of the generated Gerber and NC files.
  • For recipients of Gerber files, it provides an accurate way to validate the input and arbitrate in discussions about the interpretation of a file.

Ucamco provides the Reference Gerber Viewer free of charge at gerber-viewer.ucamco.com

Happy Anniversary, Gerber Format: Looking Ahead to Digital Innovation

01/25/2019 | Patrick McGoff, Mentor, a Siemens business
This year, we celebrate the 55th anniversary of the introduction of the Gerber machine language format. We can thank H. Joseph Gerber, the man who took manual PCB design to the next level with the automated photoplotter, for giving us this format in 1964. Gerber immigrated to the United States in 1940 with his mother following the death of his father during the Holocaust. Gerber started Gerber Scientific Instrument Company in 1948 to commercialize his first patented invention—the variable scale.

Front-End Expert Mark Thompson of Prototron Circuits Publishes Book on Producing the Perfect Data Package

10/03/2018 | Dan Beaulieu
Errors and inaccuracies slow the process down because the CAM department has to correct their data package or ask customers to clarify their intent. In the quick-turn prototype business where people pay for time, a slowdown on a three-day turn can be a disaster. I recently sat down with Thompson to find out more about his new book and discuss the quest for the perfect data package.

Institute of Circuit Technology Hayling Island Seminar

10/10/2018 | Pete Starkey, I-Connect007
After an extreme summer heat wave had left trees dehydrated and struggling to morph into their customary display of reds and golds, the leaves were brown and brittle as the great and good of the UK printed circuit board industry crossed the bridge from the mainland of the south coast of England to Hayling Island for the autumn seminar of the Institute of Circuit Technology on September 20, 2018.
